WHAT IS IT ABOUT WEDDINGS THAT INSPIRE EVEN THE FAITHLESS?

MY INNERMOST THOUGHTS

i don't think that i have ever been as proud of my older brother, Shanil, as i was the day when he got married. i'll be the first to admit that we haven't always gotten along. perhaps because of our less than perfect childhood, perhaps because of our expectations of one another, perhaps because we are so alike and yet extremely different at the same time ... i am not entirely sure why. but on the weekend of his wedding, suddenly, i got to see Shanil again for the first time. not for the person he was, not for the person i want him to be, but for the person that he has become and all i kept thinking was, "who is this guy? have i ever met him? and how on earth did he become so dashing?"

it's quite sad when so much time lapses between two people who care about one another, it is ... because in that relationship, you have an ever present awareness of moments been lost ... memories that could have been made ... and of all the time that you have deliberately allowed to seap through your fingers. but ... i will always have his wedding, won't i? and he will always know that on the day he needed his family most, they were right there beside him, as it should be. as it should have always been.

yeah, i am not proud of many things that i have achieved in my life ... but i was proud that day, that weekend, i couldn't help it.
